Classic Brownie Squares

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 cup cocoa, unsweetened
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup chopped nuts

1. Preheat oven to 200C

2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar and beat until well incorporated. Add vanilla and eggs, beat until light and creamy. Add cocoa, mix well.

3. In a separate bowl, mix all the dry ingredients: flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir, then add half a portion to the creamed mixture. Stir again then add the other half, mix until fully incorporated. Add chopped nuts.

4. Spread the batter into the floured/buttered/lined baking pan.

5. Garnish with more nuts on top then place the pan into the oven and bake for 8 to 11 minutes.

  1. I read somewhere that making brownies from cocoa powder actually yields the most moist brownies. I find this is to be true but again I’m bias, I like anything chocolate ๐Ÿ™‚ What do you think?

    • Hmm not really sure if it has something to do with the cocoa, but I think the moist feel of the brownies (or any) depends, or at least caused by the temperature of the oven and the baking time. The first ever batch of brownies I made were soo dry and I pointed finger to different ingredients but then I tried the shorten the baking time with the temperature of my oven and voila! I was able to make moist brownies ๐Ÿ˜‰
